Holistic Primary Care Workshop a Success at SupplySideEast!

Holistic Primary Care’s editor, Erik Goldman, was the featured speaker in a special workshop entitled: Health Practitioners and Supplements: Channel Data, Strategies and Opportunities for Growth at  SupplySideEast, the nation’s premier natural product ingredients trade show, held May 2-4, at the Meadowlands Convention Center, Secaucus, NJ.

The workshop, attended by a sell-out crowd of industry insiders, was a collaboration between Holistic Primary Care and Virgo Publishing, the host of the SupplySide shows. It explored the rapid evolution of the health practitioner segment of the natural products industry. Mr. Goldman presented data from HPC’s recent practitioner survey, documenting the major mindshift among primary care doctors toward greater acceptance of nutrition, dietary supplements, herbal medicines and other natural products in the day-to-day care of their patients.

Attendees also heard from: Dr. Derrick DeSilva, an integrative internist atih-sponsor Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy, NJ and faculty member at JFK Medical Center, Edison, NJ, and one of the East Coast’s most prominent holistic physicians; Kyle Bliffert, the president of Pure Encapsulations, a leading practitioner channel nutraceutical company; and Gerard McIntee, formerly of Nature’s Plus and NBTY’s Physiologics brand.

The 2 hour discussion explored the history and evolution of practitioner engagement with natural products, opportunities for future growth, and the special needs and interests of integrative doctors who use nutraceuticals in their practices. The event was moderated Rob Lutz, medical practitioner brand manager at Virgo.
