Girls Will Be Girls….But Not For Long

Precocious puberty is on the rise among pre-teen girls in the US, according to a comprehensive multi-site study of more than 1,200 girls, aged 6-8 years. By age 8, 18% of Whites, 31% of Hispanics, and a shocking 43% of black girls showed significant breast development. Premature puberty confers a host of risk factors, including increased risk of breast cancer, and psychosocial distress.
