HPC Reader Calls for “Wellness Charter Schools”

Holistic Primary Care reader Dr. Giovanni Campanile, is calling on the Obama administration tocreate a national charter schools program focused on health, wellness and nutrition.

“These schools will focus on nutrition and wellness as a fundamental curriculum for students, which I feel is the best grassroots method to change the food culture and healthy of our children and future adults,” says Dr. Campanile, a cardiologist in Essex Fells, NJ. He hopes that by creating health-centric charter schools, educators, clinicians and parents can work together to stem the tidal wave of obesity, metabolic syndrome and heart disease that threatens the longevity of the nation’s youth.

He would like to see healthy eating, meditation, yoga and other health-engendering practice become part of the routine curriculum in grade schools all over the country.

“We need to incorporate teaching in our schools of how nutrition and wellness can positively affect the lives
of or children and future adults. This teaching needs to start at an early age. Good health is the most important thing we can give our children.” Dr. Campanile is calling on the Holistic Primary Care community, and the health care community at large to support his effort.

HPC applauds Dr. Campanile’s effort, and encourages you to sign the petition for health-focused charter schools at the White House’s “We The People” website.
